Band Placements, Leadership, and Officer Elections

Hello Mav Band and Guard Family!

Thank you to all students for your work preparing for your auditions and going through the rigorous leadership and drum major audition process! The McNeil Band had a banner year this year and the directors are incredibly excited for next year! We anticipate being even better!

The directors have spent most of the last few weeks listening to and watching band placement auditions, interviewing leadership candidates, and poring over the results. Attached to this email are the results of our band placement auditions and leadership process.

Please know that we have deliberated and discussed every student, every position, and every class and ensemble. Many of you will be excited while some of you will be disappointed. We are well aware of the emotions attached to these results and we are sensitive to that. We ask that you congratulate those students who earn a desired spot and that you are also aware of those who may be disappointed with their results.

The directors will not discuss the results with anyone until next week, so we ask you to wait until then to inquire about anything with us.

Band Placement - Winds

The results you see are anticipated spring semester band placements. The fall semester classes are determined by students' marching band role, with Varsity in 1st/5th and 2nd/6th, and JV in 3rd/7th periods. In the spring semester, 1st/5th will be Wind Ensemble, 2nd/6th will be Wind Symphony, and 3rd/7th will be Symphonic Band. We will audition all students again at the end of the fall semester for final spring semester band placements.

Band Placement - Percussion

Your fall class schedule will be determined by your marching band placement, either battery or front ensemble. It is standard for percussionists to have to change their schedule for the spring semester in order to be in the correct band class. Please go into the year expecting to have a schedule change in the middle of the year.

Leadership

Thank you to everyone who went through the entire leadership process. We understand this is not easy and there are several students who will not have the title they were hoping for. The directors were impressed by so many of you and we commented several times how many fantastic candidates we have now. Your title does not always determine your influence, as you can still have a major impact. Keep in mind your reaction to the results. An outward negative reaction will easily confirm the directors' choice to exclude someone from the leadership team.

The first leadership meeting is on May 17th at 4:30 for our marching leadership only.

Our leadership camp is July 17-20. Marching leadership will attend all day and Logistical leadership will attend from 1-3 each day.

Again, thank you to everyone for the work you have put in thus far! We'll see you tomorrow at Everything Day.
