Mav Band Booster News: 8/6/2025

Hello, Mav Band and Guard Family!

Can you believe we're just one week away from the end of summer band? It's been an incredible few weeks of hard work, music, and growing friendships. The students have shown amazing dedication, braving the heat and perfecting their marching and musical skills. I'm so proud of how far they've come already, and I can't wait to see everything they'll achieve this season.

As the first day of school quickly approaches, here are a few tips to help your student make a smooth transition from summer band into the school year:

Stay Hydrated and Rested: With full school days plus after-school rehearsals, it's more important than ever for students to drink plenty of water, make healthy meal choices, and get enough sleep.
Get Organized: Encourage your student to review their schedule and plan out their time, including classes, homework, rehearsals, lessons, and performances. August through October are the band's busiest months, and establishing a routine early is the best way to start the year off strong.

Check the Calendar: Make sure you and your student have marked all key band events and performances; actively check your email and the Band App; and follow the Mav Band on social media (Instagram | Public Facebook Page | Private Facebook Group). Staying informed is the best way to avoid last-minute surprises!

Seek Out Support: Encourage your student to communicate with their section leaders and the directors if they're feeling overwhelmed. The Mav Band is a family, and support is always available, whether it's tutoring, time management help, coping with anxiety about starting high school, or anything else!

Get Involved: Our Mav Band parents make everything we do possible, from volunteering at events to helping with uniforms to cheering from the stands. You are a crucial part of your student's success, and your support truly makes a difference in every note played and every step marched.

Let's finish summer band strong and step into the new school year with pride, energy, and excitement!

Thank you!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

It's almost time for our annual Watermelon Social, our official kickoff to marching band season! Join us Monday, Aug. 11, with a parent meeting at 6 p.m. in the band hall, followed by a performance on the band pad of all the kids have learned during summer practice. Watermelon will be served immediately after. There are many ways you can help make this event a success. We need pre-sliced watermelon donations as well as some help the day of the event. Please review the available slots and sign up!

In preparation for the school year, also be sure to fill out the Round Rock ISD volunteer application when it opens on Friday, Aug. 8. All adult volunteers at any RRISD campus or district-affiliated event (including band) must resubmit their application each year. If you've been approved in years' past, go ahead and sign up for Watermelon Social slots. If this is all new to you, there will be lots of other volunteer opportunities throughout the year!

We're always seeking new sponsors to help supplement the booster budget and offset what our families pay. Now, thanks to video producer Maury Jacks and parents Ruchi Messick (mom of Ayen, 12th, trumpet) and Michelle McGuire (mom of Conner, 10th, tuba), we have an amazing video to show potential sponsors just what the Mav Band experience is all about. Take a look, let the goosebumps settle, and then share, share, share with friends, family, and colleagues who own small businesses or coordinate philanthropy in larger ones! Direct those who are interested to our online sponsorship form or Sponsor Coordinator Shawna Adkins (mom of Max, 10th, trumpet).
